Head teachers tasked on patriotism
Hajji Walugembe Ramathan, Maracha Resident District Commissioner, has said some head teachers have failed to embrace activities of the National Secretariat for Patriotic Corps due to the falsehood that they are political in nature. Hajji Walugembe was speaking at the joint pass out of 800 patriots from secondary schools in the District at Maracha Domestic Science Secondary School. Hajji Walugembe said the head teachers should be enlightened on the National Secretariat for Patriotic Corps activities.
Rev. Br. Amagule Tom, Deputy Head teacher Maracha Domestic Science Secondary School, said patriotism is anchored on national unity, peace and development. He said the mandate of institutions should be inclined to nation building and development.
Hon. Andeoye William, Nyadri Sub-county Chairperson, said patriotism starts with the students loving themselves by not engaging in cases of indiscipline.
ASP Kananura Joshua, then Maracha District Police Commander, said they oriented the students on key patriotism aspects.
Mr. Oka Romano, Chairperson Maracha District Secondary Schools Head teachers Association, said the schools lack Kiswahili teachers yet Kiswahili is a compulsory subject. He appealed to Hajji Walugembe to escalate the concern to the central government.
Hon. Asea Bosco, Vice Chairperson Maracha District, said joint patriotism orientation would instill unity among the learners of the different schools. Hon. Asea said the patriots should take back want they have learnt to their students to avert strikes and inter-school conflicts. He added patriots should be promoters of peaceful conflict resolution in their schools.
Ms. Kotevu Monica, Maracha Deputy Resident Commissioner, commended trainers for the orientation.
Mr. Ecega Joseph, the coordinator of patriotism activities in Maracha District, said the joint pass out was a historic moment. He added that for the next training the schools will be clustered in 2 centers.
The National Secretariat for Patriotic Corps also referred to as NSPC was established in 2009 by President Yoweri Museveni with the mandate to promote patriotism ideology in schools. It is a department under the Office of the President.
