PDM program boosted with tablets

Maracha District officials have received Parish Development Model (PDM) tablet computers from Government to boost their delivery on PDM. 

Hajji Walugembe Ramathan, Maracha District Resident Commissioner, presided over the handover of the tablets to parish chiefs and town agents, parish SACCO chairpersons, and community development officers. The acting District Information Technology Officer and Senior Planner also each received a tablet. Hajji Walugembe warned parish chiefs and town agents, parish SACCO chairpersons against extortion.

According to Wikipedia, a tablet computer, commonly shortened to tablet, is a mobile device, typically with a mobile operating system and touchscreen display processing circuitry, and a rechargeable battery in a single, thin and flat package.

Mr. Aleku Gift, Maracha District acting Information Technology Officer, said disbursement of PDM funds on Parish Development Model Information System (PDMIS) was at 92%. He called for constant consultation with him in the entry of PDMIS data.

 Mr. Kato Alfred, Senior Planner Maracha District, said the devices should help the parish chiefs in data cleaning. He added that the tablets should enable the parish chiefs to collect administrative data to enhance service delivery.

Mr.  Olila Patrick, Maracha District Chief Administrative Officer, said the parish chiefs should work towards registering 100% disbursement of funds. Mr. Olila said the officers will individually be liable for the loss of the gadgets. Mr. Olila tasked the parish chiefs to generate PDM monitoring reports.

Hon. Asea Bosco, Maraha District Vice Chairperson, commended the parish chiefs for the work well done. Hon. Asea said parish SACCO chairpersons have to be open to learning. He also said they act in the trust of the people and therefore should aim to meet their expectations.

Mr. Adriko Alfred, Drambu Sub-county Chief, said communities fail to exhaust grievance redress mechanisms at the lower local governments before going to higher offices when dissatisfied with services.

Mr. Ocitia Mandela Nelson, Commercial Officer Maracha Town Council, said the gadgets should propel the parish chiefs to speed up in their work. He said the parish chiefs should provide quality data on disbursement.

Ms. Shida Palma, Commercial Officer with Maracha District Local Government said the concerns of the parish chiefs in regard to PDMIS had been forwarded to the PDM Secretariat, Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, and Ministry of Finance for action.

Maracha District has 91 parishes.
