Maracha District leaders, led by the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC), Mr. Collins Dramani, together with officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Nyadri Urban Senior Secondary School under the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project (USEEP).

USEEP is a Government of Uganda initiative implemented by the Ministry of Education and Sports with funding from the World Bank.The Ministry of Education and Sports procured BAMK Real Estate and Contractors Ltd to undertake the construction works at a contract sum of UGX 3,043,350,000 The project is expected to be completed within 10 months.

Scope of Works

The project comprises the construction of two (2) three-classroom blocks, one (1) two-classroom block, one (1) Administration Block, one (1) two-unit Science Laboratory, one (1) ICT/Library Block, three (3) two-unit teachers' houses, three (3) two-unit resident teachers' kitchens, three (3) two-unit resident teachers' latrines, one (1) five-stance Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrine for boys, one (1) five-stance Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrine for girls, one (1) two-stance Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrine for teachers, one (1) 15kg/day waste incinerator, water supply through connection to an existing water supply system where applicable or borehole drilling, motorisation and rainwater harvesting, power supply through connection to the national grid where applicable or installation of a solar power system, one (1) sports field where land size and terrain permit, one (1) multi-purpose hall, external works, provision of furniture for all structures, instructional materials for learners and teachers, and laboratory equipment (science kits) together with the required chemicals.

The Assistant RDC emphasized:

•Strict adherence to the approved Bills of Quantities (BOQs), engineering specifications and the 10-month contract period.

•Delivery of quality work that guarantees value for money, transparency and accountability.

•Close collaboration between the contractor, the district technical team and local leaders to ensure smooth implementation and timely completion of the project.

Remarks by Other Leaders

Other leaders appealed for:

•Strict adherence to the project timelines.

•Teamwork and coordination among all stakeholders.

•Compliance with grievance management procedures to prevent misinformation and conflict.

•Regular site meetings to monitor progress and resolve emerging issues.

•Strict adherence to approved project guidelines, specifications and quality standards.

•Employment of local labour and procurement of quality local materials where possible.

•Compliance with social safeguards, including fair employment terms, workers' safety and environmental protection.

•Prompt payment of the contractor to avoid unnecessary delays.

•Timely sharing of project documents by the Ministry of Education and Sports to strengthen supervision and accountability.

Contractor's Commitment

The contractor, BAMK Real Estate and Contractors Ltd, pledged to:

•Deliver quality work within the agreed 10-month contract period.

•Build the capacity and skills of locally employed workers through on-the-job training.

•Work closely with the district, local leaders and the community throughout project implementation.

•Maintain open communication and cooperation with all stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the project.

The construction of Nyadri Urban Senior Secondary School is expected to significantly expand access to quality secondary education in Maracha District, reduce the distance learners travel to access secondary education, and contribute to the Government of Uganda's efforts to improve equitable access to quality education through the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project (USEEP).
