Partners in Community Transformation - PICOT has embarked on a malaria program in Maracha District. Several activities have been de-signed in the project which include: community case management, da-ta management, among others.

The 2-year project is being implemented in Maracha District, Yumbe District, Koboko District, Arua District, and Arua City.

During the project inception meeting, Mr.Boniface Kadabara , Resource Mobilisation officer Picot, said there will be no duplication in the project revealing as partners implementing malaria projects in Maracha District they have been holding joint meetings.

Mr. Kadabara said implementation of the project will be district led with PICOT providing the needed logistics. He added implementation of the project will involve not only the health technical personnel and Village Health Team (VHTs) members, but will also involve political leaders.

Hon. Bosco Asea, Maracha District Vice Chairperson, appealed there should not be delays in responding to the logistical requirements of the VHTs, as has been witnessed with some organisations that involve VHTs in their activities.

Capt(Rtd) Yasin Buga Matata, RDC Maracha said with there is need to see positive results during the project time frame.

Hon. Stephen Obitre, Maracha District Chairperson, appreciated PICOT for choosing Maracha District as one of the benefitting districts and added that it is not easy to lobby funds for projects.

Hon Obitre added that PICOT will be given a conducive environment to successfully implement this project.

Hon Obitre said interventions of partners have led to a decline in child mortality across the country.

The project cost in Maracha District is 661 million shillings with 50% malaria burden reduction being one of the project targets.
